This is the life

Just enjoying today, kicking back and hanging loose as best I can and making the most of my free time. The weather is a beauty today and I'm feeling quite relaxed, all things considered. The sun is high, the fishes are jumping like there's no tomorrow, can you believe such a thing? Nevermind, I don't feel much like making sense right now, please forgive me, mere mortal forever scribbling away on digital parchment. More sense next time. Promise!

Pub steak

Went for a nice steak dinner at the local pub tonight. As usual, the meal was pretty good and it was nice to meet a few friends and relaxing. It is a hot day and it's quite humid and close. This country must spend a fortune on airconditioning. But you wouldn't want to do without it. Whenever you have been in a schop and come out the humidity hits you like a hot, wet blanket. Here we have a full on Aussie summer on our hands..

Holidays and boat houses

When I was a boy, my family usually went on camping holidays in countries such as Germany, Austria and Italy. It was always good fun to put up our tents on some nice campsite or other and spend some time getting to know the area.

We often chose campsites that bordered a lake so that my brother and I could enjoy ourselves swimming and sailing on the cool water. Sometimes I would see a nice, luxurious house on the lake’s edge and often a house like that would have one of those wooden boat houses, serving as a Boat Storage for some cool vessel or other.

That always seemed like the ultimate in comfort; having your very own boat house. Ah well. These days even my car doesn’t have its own house..

The news

It is funny watching the news here in Australia. Some of the news readers seem very American and glib, you know the type: all shiny and laminated with a huge smile and neon teeth. Then there's a weatherman who goes for the wacky image; spiky 'crazy' hair, a bright, cool pair of sunglasses and lots of shouting when delivering his forecast.

It's all good fun to notice these cultural differences. Just don't get me started on television advertising...

These boots were made for walking

A while ago a few good friends and I went for a day trip into the Blue Mountains, which are located a few hours’ drive out of the city where I live. It was the first full on experience with spending some time hiking through the wilder parts of this rugged country. It was, truly, an experience and one that I will savour for a long, long time to come.

Of course, I took a hat to shield me from the fierce summer sun as well as some sun glasses to take away the strong glare. Some comfortable clothes were also in order but last but not least I chose to wear some strong walking boots. You just need good and sturdy footwear if you decide to tackle the open country and do some mountain walking.

But where you are looking for a good fitting walking boot or a suitable work Boot you may want to check out the excellent Work Boots USA where you will find an excellent range of fine quality work boots at great prices.

Whether you are doing a hard day’s work or going for a long hike in the country you will most certainly need a pair of good quality boots. You simply cannot skimp on good footwear whatever activity you find your self engaged in at any given time.

Gorgeous

Another wonderfully sunny day here in Sydney. It seems as though summer is now well and truly underway. Of course, that also means bushfires. I can't believe some of these horrendous fires are started deliberately. If you are from Australia and you are aware of how dangerous these fires can be then you'd have to be pretty mental to go around lighting fires.

Went out on a drive into the Blue Mountains a few weeks ago and as we drove we saw long rows of trees lining the way, with the tops still burnt and black and devoid of leaves since the last bushfire wreaked its havoc in that area.

Dead pirate washed ashore with 153K in his pockets

The body of one of the drowned pirates who received a ransom of three million dollars washed ashore in Somalia. The ransom was paid for the super tanker Sirius Star and her crew of twenty-five.

The dead pirate was carrying 153 thousand dollar, wrapped in plastic. The US Navy released photos which show how a parachute dropped the ransom money onto the deck of the Sirius Star.
The pirates made off towards the Somali coast while the tanker ship and her unharmed crew sailed to freedom. One of the pirate vessels overturned and five of them drowned with their share of the ransom money.

The Sirius Star was hijacked on the 15th of November. The ship was transporting a cargo of crude oil worth a hundred million dollars. The hijacking caused a stir as it proved the lengths to which the Somali pirates are prepared to go.

Scorcher

It's a scorcher here in Sydney this week. It's not a problem because I do like warm weather and since I'm on the coast I get the sea breezes coming in. But farther inland it must be pretty much unbearable. I'm seeing some scary temperatures for Alice Springs on the weather forecast. I think I'll put in an appearance at the local swimming pool tomorrow. Yeah, baby!
