Frank Skinner

You may have noticed a new widget in the sidebar. I thought I'd treat you to the musings of Frank Skinner as he pens his Euro 2008 blog. An avid football fan, Frank's thoughts are usually entertaining, looking at the various European nations' quirks from an English perspective. Have a look to see if you agree.

Osborne, the emu that could

Funny slow news day story about Osborne, the emu that nearly ended up as an omelette. A woman from East Sussex bought an emu egg from a farm somewhere as a novelty food item. As she was used to rearing chickens she decided to see what would happen if she put the big blue egg in her incubator. A while latter out popped Osborne the emu. Click on the link to see footage of Osborne running around this lady's lounge, happy as Larry and blissfully unaware of the fact that he so very nearly ended up as someone's idea of an exotic breakfast.

Dog diving

Just saw something funny as well as bizarre on one of those cheesy 'Animals do the funniest things' shows. A deep sea diver had taught his dog to dive. He devised a special diving helmet with all the gear and it turned out the dog just loves diving amongst the big fish and stingrays off the Cayman Islands. The dog really looked in his element playing with the marine life.

Frankie Boyle

Last night Frankie Boyle, the brutal Scottish comedian was a guest on the usually very funny panell show 'Have I got News for You'. I thought to myself: yes, bring it on, Frankie. Let's have it, expecting him to make his usual razor-sharp mark. But he was placid, rarely saying anything much at all. I know that the regulars Merton and Hislop have the whole thing sown-up but I thought that Frankie Boyle might be able to make a bit more of an impact. Pull your socks up, Frankie!

Brucie Birthday

Bruce Forsyth, the British entertainer, is eighty years old and the BBC threw him a grand birthday party show the other day. All the old performers were there to wish him well but there were also a lot of new comedians on hand to give credit to this most engaging of artists. Seems like he’s been around for ever. Hasn’t he done well?

Cuppa

How the English love their cup of tea . I once read about how the British Army had devised a system whereby soldiers could brew a cup of tea during marching. On the back of one soldier would be the tea-making contraption, strapped to the shoulders in a rucksack sort of manner, and the soldier following directly behind would be able to make a cup of tea in this way. It sounds very fanciful but these people were nothing if not ingenious. Wonder if they did a cappuccino as well?

Battle of the Bulge

For a while now I've been waging a rear-guard Battle of the Bulge. Now in my early forties, I find it a tad difficult to keep up enough exercise to fight my ever increasing circumference. I suppose it's not too bad and I would by no means describe myself as a proper porker, or obese. But I am slightly vain and I remember how trim, strong and lean I used to be as an 18-year old. I was just in the army and the daily dose of physical exercise turned me into a lean, mean fitness machine in a matter of weeks. Ah..those were the days. Perhaps it's still not too late. You do see men of my age and older who have flat stomachs. Perhaps they don't like beer? Who knows? Meanwhile, in Japan they are working on other ways to battle the bulge

Fug this!

Stumbled across this so-called Fug blog http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/

It's full of pictures of celebrities and their crimes against fashion and good taste, all commented upon by someone who knows how to bring that bitch-on-wheels tone to the fore. Good fun for a few minutes although very US-focussed so some of these would-be starlets are completely unknown to me.
