Launching a franchise

Someone once told me something that I always remembered. At the time I was slightly dissatisfied with my run of the mill office job and I was considering venturing into the world of launching my own business. This sage friend said to me: ‘You will never grow rich by working for a boss.’ It seemed a very insightful comment at the time and I have to say that it still sounds like good advice. This friend is a former bank manager so he knows how to count the pennies, so to speak.

Starting up your own business is something of a dream to many people who are looking for something better in which to invest their time, money and aspirations. The world is replete with people who are content to just do their job and cash their pay check each month, and that is just fine. But there are also a lot of people who would jump at the chance of putting their energy into a business venture that they could call their own. It is like owning your own home; you put more into it when you know it belongs to you, for better or worse.

But, hard as it is to launch a business of your own, the answer may well be investing in a franchise of some sort, such as a property or a lettings franchise. This could see you well underway to financial independence and a rewarding work/life balance. It is most definitely worth looking into if you are serious about running your own business.

Another sticky hot day in the office but I'm not complaining. Of course, the office is one of those sixties-built concrete nightmares where you can't open a window anywhere and have to rely on recycled stuffy air that gets pumped around the different floors. But, I am enjoying the temperatures and looking forward to a summer that may, for a change, not disappoint..

Boris booze bust

It looks like new London Mayor Boris Johnson's action is a very sensible one. He has forthwith banned drinking on public transport. Now, that's a good policy. No one likes to share the top deck of a bus with some yob drinking from a can of cider. He boozing passenger in question may be perfectly amiable - he could very well be a good drunk - but he could also be a whole bag of trouble for the other passengers, you know those people who can wait until they get where they are going before having to have a drink. Oh well. Boris is off to a good start anyway.

Today's article on the BBC makes it clear; the powers that be regret ever having relaxed legislation regarding the weed as more evidence comes out of the link between skunk and psychosis.

I grew up in Holland where the use of cannabis is widely tolerated. I think that merry little country will have quite a public health bill presented in a few years time when psychiatric wards fill up with formerly happy puffers. There's a reason it's called dope..

When you think about your own doctor or physician or just about doctors in general, Information Technology may not be the very first thing you come to think of, really. You may have seen a desk top computer in the doctor’s office when you were last there but you most probably would not think of your doctor having a need to be a whizkid with computers and clever gadgets. Yet, how convenient would it be if a doctor had a mobile reference source to check some medical data or medicine information while he or she was out and about?

Dodgy film

Watched about forty minutes of the Nicholas Cage film 'National Treasure' over the weekend. What a dire turkey. More's the pity as it has some good actors in it as well. You can just see they wanted to reproduce that 'Sahara' feel with the headstrong lead character and his cheeky grungy trusty sidekick. Within seconds I started rooting for the bad guys. What is it about Nicholas Cage's performances these days that makes him so insufferable? Not quite as irritating as Tom Cruise but he's getting there.
