Spent most of last night watching the epic battle between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at the finals of the Australian Open. The match was a cracker and Nadal thoroughly deserved to win his first Australian Open Championship. The sheer force of mental power that he brought to bear was fabulous to watch.
He'd already played a five hour match on Friday and here he was, up against Federer, and he kept on going, never giving up, never weakening. Some of the masterful shots by both players were a joy to behold.
The game went on till after midnight and after the final point was scored and Nadal had won, the release and relief on both players' faces was evident. Federer came over all emotional and was too teary-eyed to deliver his speech. Nadal comforted him. Two great players and one fantastic match. Simply wonderful.
