There is a thought-provoking article in the Spectator about the state of the nation and more general tensions in the liberal democracies we all know and love. Using examples from history David Selbourne notices parallels between today's malaise and other periods when a crisis mood was brewing. His remarks on the dubious influence of islam in Western countries are very insightful and well worth reading.
