Went into town today on the bus and, although it was very quiet on the roads, it still took quite a while to get from my house to the city centre. A lot of time is wasted by people queueing up to pay for tickets and tickets to be produced. A lot of people will only start rummaging around in their purse or handbag when actually on the bus rather than prepare the correct change before the bus pulls up and this leads to a lot of delays at each bus stop. Now, a local councillor has called for an Oyster-style electronic card system, such as is in use in London, to be introduced in Bristol. In London this electronic system has proved to be a success, with about eighty percent take-up of the Oyster card and delays being much reduced. Knowing a bit about how things are done in Bristol we'll probably have a few years debate, followed by a review, after which it will be decided that it's not a feasible plan for our city. But I could be wrong..
