Never Say Die

Just spent an enjoyable hour and a half watching the F.A. Cup third round draw between 'lowly' Burnley and the stars of Arsenal, the top Premiership team that has been in such good form recently. Once again I was impressed with the spirit and mental toughness of the English footballer. Arsenal played only foreign footballers, as usual, and sometimes you have to wonder to what extent the famous North London club can still be called an English club when not only the manager is foreign but also almost all of the actual players. Conversely, Burnley showed the true grit and determination of the English/British character, never wanting to give up, even against the odds and against a superior adversary. At one point Burnley had a player sent off with a red card and even with ten players they made life very difficult for the top class players of Arsenal. In the end, Burnley lost 2-0 but they can be proud as they played a marvelous game of football and would have deserved to get at least a point for their brave effort. Great game of football on a Sunday afternoon; not too shabby!
