Britain summed up

Gordon Brown, the current PM, has endorsed a debate about what the national character is or should be. The Times and some BBC radio programmes have immediately jumped on this and asked readers and listeners to come up with a way of describing Britain in five succinct words. Some of the respondents' results were funny and caustic such as: 'dipso, fatso, bingo, asbo, Tesco'. Others were proud, as in: 'Courage, reason, humanity, democracy, monarchy'. My personal favourite, though, was: 'At least we're not French'..
