Remembrance Sunday

Yesterday was Remembrance Sunday when we commemorate the fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of their country. There is usually an emphasis on the First World War dead but more recently the day has come to signify all those fallen in the many wars that this nation has been involved in over the years. I always find it very moving to watch the wreaths being placed at the Cenotaph in London, the parade of veterans, men and women, the war widows, the proud old gents with their medals out, some of whom can't walk or have no legs anymore and have to be pushed along in wheelchairs. But the whole ceremony is handled with such dignitity and respect. It makes me proud to be at least a witness to such an invincible spirit.
