Dirty Business

El Gordo, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, has had to back-peddle severely when it came to considering whether to call for an election to gain his very own mandate. His spin meisters whipped up a mild media frenzy as to when and if there would be a glorious poll, that wonderful national election the nation apparently had been gagging for for so long. Who could have guessed that the Tories would suddenly be doing so well in the opinion polls? Dave ‘the Dave’ Cameron delivered a blinder of an off the cuff speech at the Conservative conference and hey presto, the powers that be and Gordon suddenly became a bit weak at the knees at the prospect of asking the populace to vote for them. So, no there will not be an election after all. And we never really wanted it in the first place, so there!

And now, of course, Cameron relishes in calling Brown a phoney and a coward who blinked first. For what that’s worth. Brown seems to be faltering after the mishandled announcement about troop withdrawals from Irag and now with this election U-turn.

In the end it’s just politics and everyone knows it’s a dirty business. But then it’s also a dirty business that someone’s got to do..
