Today the European heads of state were gathered in Lisbon in order to sign the new EU constitution, eh sorry, I mean the new EU treaty. Brown was a bit late, he had some business to attend to in the House of Commons, so he flew over to Portugal after the other EU bigwigs had long since signed the document. He handles these things so appallingly. He knows this treaty won't be popular in Britain so he tries to avoid news footage of him signing it. In doing so, he manages to stand out a mile as the only government leader who has to sing the damn thing on his own. Blair may have been glib, he knew how to manipulate this type of tricky situation. Calamity Brown may be an appropriate moniker after all.
